On Sunday, November 7, 1937, a dedicated group of forty-six Christians met in a new building at 14th and Cherry in east Denver. This was the first service of the Park Hill (now Dahlia Street) Church of Christ. This church has been blessed with far-sighted leadership through the years, beginning with our first two elders, Jack Perry and Doug Qualls, who were appointed shortly after that first worship service in 1937. We are currently blessed with three outstanding elders and four dedicated deacons. Our ministerial staff includes Ken Dawdy (pulpit preacher) and Mike Atteberry (deaf minister).
Dahlia Street is a congregation with a history of proactive evangelistic and missionary programs. Over twenty congregations in the U.S. and abroad have been planted or assisted by this church. Our current efforts are concentrated in the areas of youth and family ministry, education, outreach, and deaf ministry. We are a goal-oriented church with a commitment to ongoing development of new ways to touch hearts with the unchanging gospel of Jesus Christ.
Our present facility at 1100 Dahlia has been occupied since April of 1963. It includes auditorium seating for eight hundred, a library, fellowship hall, and twenty-four classrooms.
Ken Dawdy, our pulpit minister, was raised in Carlsbad, NM. He earned his BA from Lubbock Christian University, his MAR from Harding University Graduate School, and attended Bear Valley Bible Institute of Denver, where he received a Master of Theology degree. Ken has lived and preached in Tennessee, New Mexico, Texas, and Colorado. He is married to Shelley, with whom he has two daughters. He and Shelley also have three grandchildren.
We are a congregation poised on the threshold of great growth. Our prayer is that you will see the loving example of Jesus reflected by our members, and that you, too, will find Dahlia Street to be a place to call home.
